11 Nov Meet our founder, Elaine Simons
Elaine Simons started Kidney Kids in 1990 as a parent support group. Her oldest daughter Jennifer was diagnosed with chronic renal failure at birth and her second child Rebecca was diagnosed with the same condition. One of the things she found frustrating was the lack of information and support for families who have a child with a kidney condition or abnormality of the urinary tract. When her youngest was four years old, she decided she needed to take action to ensure other families wouldn’t have to deal with a lack of support and information when they find out their child has a chronic kidney condition.
As a result, Kidney Kids was established 34 years ago.
In 2006, she was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal for her achievements with Kidney Kids and is a valued lifetime member of the charity she founded.
