15 Aug Dave Bodger places first in the 1,500m swim at the 2024 Donor Olympics
On August 10th, Kidney Kids Chairman of the Board Dave Bodger competed in the 1,500-metre swim as part of the 2024 Donor Games where he placed first, completing the swim in 24.34 minutes.
Dave used this international event to fundraise for Kidney Kids while representing New Zealand.
Not only did he donate his first-place winnings of $2,200, but he also raised $10,200 through his Givealittle page, bringing the total funds raised for Kidney Kids to $12,400.
The Donor Games are based in the USA and held virtually, with competitors submitting video recordings of their entry. Dave is the only international entrant to participate in the Donor Games.
Dave’s involvement with Kidney Kids goes far beyond his role on the board; he is also a kidney donor himself. On 23 December 2022, Dave received clearance to be a kidney donor to his daughter, Anna. The transplant took place in March 2023 and over a year post transplant, both Dave and Anna are doing well.
Dave’s transplant experience introduced him to the great work of Kidney Kids, encouraging him to join the board.
Kidney Kids only receives a small annual government grant of just $2000 making Dave’s fundraising efforts very welcome.
Thank you so much Dave for all of your hard work. We are so grateful your generous fundraising efforts.
