Lids and caps collection programme
At present there is a trial programme being held in the Hawkes Bay, which started at the beginning of this school term. It is planned to run for 12 weeks.
It is the collection of lids and caps by the children of 10 primary schools.
The lids and caps are taken to the children’s schools, where they are sorted, between plastic, aluminium etc.
The schools are being given prizes & money.
It started as an initiative from the Ministry of Environment, being concerned about all the waste in our environment. A number of businesses have come on board and donating their efforts for the trial, i.e. Foodstuffs, Plastics NZ, Waste Management, Office Max to name but a few.
Local Lions members are connected to their respective schools. Lions collect the lids / caps and deliver them to Waste Management, where they are collected & sent for processing.
The profits, are being donated to Kidney Kids.
